SAMC Cruise To Houston Space Center
Bea Kalinowski is planning an overnight cruise in February (Saturday, 2/17/18 – Monday 2/19/18) to Houston to visit the Space Center. It will depend on whether people want to spend one night or two nights in Houston. This is President’s Day weekend, and the kids have no school on Monday, so bring them with you for a long weekend and a historic occasion.
Besides the regular exhibits, the Apollo 11 capsule will be at the Space Center during this time. The Smithsonian Space Museum in Washington, D.C. is being refurbished, so the Apollo 11 capsule is touring the country, with Houston being the first stop from October 2017 – March 2018.

Leaving Saturday morning will give you approximately a half (1/2) day to tour the area in Houston where we plan to stay (Kemah Boardwalk), and one for the Space Center, then leisurely cruise back home on Monday, 2/19/18 (or you may choose to leave Sunday after the Space Center and drive home).

The Kemah Boardwalk is a 60-acre Texas Gulf Coast theme park in Kemah, Texas, approximately 30 miles southeast of Downtown Houston, Texas. The Boardwalk is built entirely along the shores of Galveston Bay and Clear Lake, and is considered among the premier boardwalks in the United States. The complex is owned and operated by Landry’s, Inc., and is home to more than 10 restaurants, a collection of rides, midway games, attractions, a boutique hotel, a charter yacht, a 400-slip marina and multiple shops. There is no charge to walk around on the boardwalk. Tickets for rides can be purchased individually or all-day ride passes are available. Restaurants on the boardwalk include Landry’s Seafood, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Saltgrass Steak House, Cadillac Bar and many others.

Bea would like to know how many people are interested in this cruise, and for how many nights, so that a big enough block of hotel rooms can be arranged. Tammy Thompson, also a club member, is a Travel Agent and will arrange for rooms to be available for our group.
