The Jaguar Club's 29th Annual "Time/Speed/Distance (TSD)" 2018 Rallye to Luckenback Texas will be held onSaturday, January 27th, 2018 (rain date is February 3rd).  Entry fee is $20. per car.

DETAILS: Participant’s should have a full tank of gas at the start of the event.  Lunch is on your own and may be ordered at the Grist Mill between Rallye registration and the driver’s meeting.

The starting point for the Rallye is the Grist Mill Restaurant in Gruene, with registration starting at 11 AM and Driver’s meeting at 12:10 PM.  The first car out will be released at 12:31 PM, with the rest of the cars released at 1-minute intervals.  This event will be approximately 100 miles with multiple checkpoints and will take approximately 3 hours.

Although hosted by the Jaguar Club, it is an open event.  Even though the 2017 event was won by a Jaguar (it doesn't always happen that way), out of fifteen cars entered, 3 of the 5 Corvettes entered finish in the top 5, with only 21 seconds separating them at the end of the event.

1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies will be awarded for both the driver and navigators with the lowest overall time deviation.  The 1st place winner will also get their names added and possession of the Blake Lambert Memorial Trophy for 1 year (and must return it to the Jaguar Club at the end of the year).  There is also the famous Stray Cat Award presented to the driver that took the longest time to get to Luckenbach and actually make it.  Entry fee is $20. per car.

Even More Details if you are interested:  The Jaguar Club Rallye is a Time/Speed/Distance (TSD) event that generally takes about 3 hours and covers approximately 125-150 miles (or so).  This is NOT a speed event!  A TSD rallye is run on open public roads and requires drivers/navigators to follow a specific route instruction (handed out immediately before the start of each leg of the rallye-there are generally 4 legs or stages to the rallye).  The route instructions for each leg require the team to follow specific instructions related to route directions, speed (you will NEVER be asked to go above the speed limit), and distance.  For example, an instruction may read “at 16.70 miles (from start of leg), turn left on RR165 at Stop sign to Blanco and maintain a speed of 57 MPH”.  The next instruction may read: “at 24.25 miles, change average speed to 38 MPH”.

Each of the Rallye legs (stages) is independently timed and have a check-point at the end of each leg.  Teams are assessed one penalty point for every second they are either early OR late to each Rallye leg checkpoint from the idea time for that leg.  At the end of the event, the winner is the team with the least number of points, totaled for all legs.  The 2017 winner had a total deviation of 55 seconds (early and late) over the 3 hours 12 minutes of the 4-legs of the Rallye.

Although it may sound complicated, it really is not.  Instead, the event is a great chance to have fun with cars and car people on a Saturday in the Texas Hill Country, ending with an award ceremony at Luckenbach.

A rallye point for those SAMC members that want to participate will be established if there is enough interest. Please email Paul Woeppel if you have questions.
